General Practice Services
RFDS doctors provide GP clinics at remote communities across WA. Their role includes:
- Provision of primary medical care at remote clinic locations as designated, including identification of health problems in communities and development of strategies to overcome them.
- Consultation with remote area nurses and health workers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients/clients.
- Liaison with Department of Health WA Public Health Units and participation in screening and surveillance programs as requested.
- Contribution to the maintenance and review of disease registers and medical management of patients/clients on such registers.
- Working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with other agencies and health care providers.
- Provision of clinical leadership to remote area nurses and health workers located in remote communities.
- Advancement of the clinical goals and strategies adopted by local health services i.e. Aboriginal Medical Services, Department of Health WA and Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (Western Operations), to achieve health gains in remote communities.
- Provision of feedback to Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (Western Operations) on the adequacy of RFDS primary health care services, including frequency and duration of primary medical services and the nature of other health services required.
- Provision of regular statistical reports to Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (Western Operations).
